Fetal Growth and well-being studies

Fetal growth and well-being studies are ultrasound examinations performed during pregnancy to assess your baby’s growth, development and overall well-being. These studies may include fetal measurements, amniotic fluid assessment, fetal movements, placental evaluation and Doppler blood-flow studies when clinically indicated.

Important Information

Fetal growth and well-being studies provide valuable information about your baby's development, but ultrasound assessment cannot predict or detect every possible pregnancy or fetal condition.
  • Estimated fetal weight obtained by ultrasound is an estimate and may differ from the baby's actual birth weight.
  • A single scan provides information at that particular point in pregnancy.
  • Fetal growth is best assessed by comparing measurements from appropriate scans over time when follow-up is required.
  • Doppler studies are performed when clinically indicated and are interpreted together with other ultrasound findings.
  • A normal examination does not guarantee that every genetic, structural or developmental condition is absent.
  • Your doctor will interpret the findings in the context of your pregnancy and recommend further monitoring when required.
